Lockdown Legends – Supporting SA musicians – Helping to take Covid-19 to Covid-Zero.
It’s said that during times of crisis, to gain inspiration, one should look to the helpers.
There are so many helpers who, during the lockdown, have emerged as heroes. That would obviously be the frontline healthcare workers, the doctors, nurses, retail workers, delivery people, ordinary people who have helped feed the poor. Gone beyond the average. Then there are people who could, if they’d wanted to, have locked down in comfort and never thought about the rest of the world. People have done this in many ways. Marti Pellow (ex Wet Wet Wet) and Gary Barlow (Take That) have been having online lockdown sessions to keep the spirits of people up.
Jarrod Aston (ex Face To Face and Cinema) has gone beyond that. While a number of South Africans have done nothing but moan about the lockdown, he has simply got stuck in. First, he and a couple of friends got together and RAN 58km on their balconies in order to raise funds for musicians. You can still donate here.
Then he came up with Lockdown Legends
So what’s Lockdown Legends about and how can you get involved?
“Some of the ‘unsung’ (excuse the pun) heroes suffering from the steely grip of COVID-19 virus are the artists and musicians whose music and entertainment have kept us partying, chilled and dancing over so many years. The virus has sadly prevented them and technicians and road crews from appearing live and earning their living from ‘gigs.’
Now we ask that you please support them in a fair exchange of entertainment for cash. We’ve assembled the very best entertainers from the past 40 years of SA music history, to create the Lockdown Legend’s online concert on 7 June. Celebrate with the talents of S.A’s retro ‘best of the best’ like Clout, Cinema, Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, PJ Powers and more (full lineup here), as they share their stories and perform online magic. They will be presented to you by great DJs like Benjy Mudie, Darren Scott …and many more!
Make a memory to last a lifetime as you support and pay homage to these greats of our musical heritage. The Virus will never defeat us for as long as the music plays on!
When? 7 June at 20:15

The day that lockdown happened is the day the (live) music died. But this is is the online concert that needed to happen to instill life in our South African legends. It’s so awesome that it IS happening. See you there!
